Amma... help us!!

Read ahead. But think.

June 15th was 'Back to School' day. I couldn't care less.. though my mind has been trained to think about college for the last 365+ days. One reason for this post- trip to Sivakasi. I call it by it's other name, "Kutti Japan", proudly.

Politics! An area which I ponder less. Its also the area where people in it ponder themselves. ! :p Election results ! It was obvious that the ex-ruling party will be dissolved. Well, they were vanished, and that was unexpected. This change brought in another change and another. This is something that a person with less knowledge in politics can state, "Never enter politics into the loop-holes in education!" In the early months of this year the state was in all talks about bringing in the 'common syllabus' scheme. A lot of controversies surrounded. However the teaching crowd were getting all prepared to take up a new challenge, after complaints thou'. The ex-government appointed committees with quality educational heads to look through the present syllabus and make necessary improvement(source: papers). Everything sounds and went right... untill May 13th!.

IMPACT: Student were happy for a not-very-often-you-get holiday extension!! But what was it exactly for.. if known.. will get them doomed. So why was I talking about Sivakasi.? Here it is. The town is well known for it's fireworks industries and also printing press!. It is said that almost half of the new text books as prescribed by the ex-government has been printed. Now that the Common Syllabus is not introduced, all the materials go in waste. Making the situation worse is that the new government refuses to pay these workers their wages. Tonnes of books which were printed remains undistributed. The first month of this academic year is about to end and still we don't find students learning what they have to. All one can hear is kids' screaming, "Amma!! help us!!. There is no big opposition from the parents' side either. Ignorance, again.

Metro- rail, Chennai.
Chennai, kinda developed, but is a still developing city in the state. I was awestruck seeing the parshness of Velachery(area which will be easily connected to the airport through the metro-rail)!. The papers read that the Metro-Railway system in the city would be finished by 2015 which marks a landmark in the development of Chennai. Later I saw the metro-rail symbol in various parts of the city which did make one believe something is happening around. It seemed well planned for one reason that work was in progress without disturbing the 'chennai traffic' (as ppl call it :p). It's been told that the work is presently, either stopped or slow and is not executed as per the plan, for the only reason that it was an idea of the ex. Several crores were already invested in this project and halting it would affect our revenue, in which we are behind already.

Guess it's not all about the people welfare but ego clashes among the posted. Our rights were not only upto voting. It extends after that too. We are microscopically affected for now. Let's wait for the disaster.

In blind Chennai,
Swetha Ananthan.
